Softshell customization starts with climate, activity and layering, because these inputs affect fabric, fit, hood, ventilation and pocket choices.
Frame the decision
Mark the reference jacket, create a zoned material and trim list, then validate fit and equipment access on a size-set sample before artwork and packing approval.
The custom brief should connect each visible change to a construction drawing, material reference and approval record.
Build the controlled worksheet
Keep these five topic-specific inputs together so the quotation, sample and inspection teams do not work from different assumptions:
- Layering role and climate: state the requirement, reference, status and approval owner.
- Bonded fabric construction: state the requirement, reference, status and approval owner.
- Hood, collar and pocket layout: state the requirement, reference, status and approval owner.
- Size chart and fit allowance: state the requirement, reference, status and approval owner.
- Branding and packaging: state the requirement, reference, status and approval owner.
Evidence to request
- Approved source or drawing for layering role and climate
- Order-specific record covering bonded fabric construction
- Written acceptance basis for hood, collar and pocket layout
- Controlled decision history for size chart and fit allowance
- Release evidence connected to branding and packaging
Evidence must identify the relevant product, material, revision or lot. Record any limitation, substitution or item still awaiting approval.
Risks to close before approval
- Selecting fabric by weight or marketing label alone
- Moving pockets without testing equipment access
- Adding logos before seam and panel positions are frozen
Assign an owner, due date and written disposition to each unresolved risk. Do not allow an informal answer to replace a controlled revision.
Use the result in the RFQ
Attach the worksheet, quantity, destination, required date and current sample status. Ask the supplier to list assumptions and exceptions against the same five inputs.
